John McEntee: The Young Conservative Shaping the Future of Right-Wing Politics

In the complex world of American politics, where power often resides in the shadows, John McEntee has emerged as an influential yet relatively unknown figure. At just 34 years old, McEntee has already left an indelible mark on conservative politics and is poised to play an even larger role in shaping the future of the Republican Party.

From Campaign Volunteer to White House Visionary

McEntee’s political journey began in 2015 when, inspired by Donald Trump’s presidential announcement speech, he joined the campaign as a volunteer. His rapid ascent saw him become Trump’s “body man,” a personal assistant who shadows the candidate’s every move. This role allowed McEntee to forge a close personal bond with Trump and earn his trust.

In January 2020, at the height of Trump’s first impeachment, McEntee returned to the White House after an earlier dismissal over security clearance issues. Just 29 at the time, he was appointed director of the Presidential Personnel Office (PPO), a position that gave him sweeping authority over personnel decisions for thousands of federal employees.

McEntee’s tenure at the PPO was marked by loyalty to Trump and a no-nonsense approach to staffing. He executed a significant personnel shakeup, removing officials viewed as insufficiently supportive of the administration’s agenda and empowering those who demonstrated unwavering loyalty. His actions earned both admiration and criticism, with some colleagues privately referring to him as “Deputy President.”

Key accomplishments during his time at the PPO included streamlining the hiring process, which reduced the time to fill appointments to just six weeks. John McEntee also appointed officials who were aligned with Trump’s vision in key positions, including the intelligence community.

Post-White House: Project 2025 and Beyond

Following Trump’s electoral defeat in 2020, McEntee didn’t fade into obscurity. Instead, he pivoted to a new role with Project 2025, an initiative led by the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation. McEntee’s role in the project included creating a comprehensive list of vetted personnel ready to serve in a future conservative administration.

McEntee’s work with Project 2025 involves creating what some have dubbed a “right-wing LinkedIn,” a database of potential political appointees who align with conservative values and policies. His emphasis on ideological consistency reflects lessons learned from the Trump administration’s early struggles with staffing.

Paul Dans, who leads Project 2025, highlighted John McEntee’s importance, stating, “Any conservative candidate, if he or she prevails in 2024, one of the first people they’re going to turn to is John McEntee to say, ‘How do I stock this government?’”

Expanding Influence: The Right Stuff and Social Media Success

Beyond his direct political activities, John McEntee ventured into the tech world by launching a conservative dating app called Date Right (also known as The Right Stuff). Co-founded by McEntee and backed by conservative billionaire Peter Thiel, the app connects politically right-leaning singles who feel underserved by mainstream dating platforms.

Perhaps most surprisingly, McEntee has also become a TikTok sensation, amassing over 3.4 million followers since joining the platform in the summer of 2024. His success on the platform is particularly noteworthy given TikTok’s widespread criticism of conservative ideals. McEntee’s ability to build a large following without relying on his White House credentials showcases his adaptability and understanding of modern media for reaching future voters.

“It’s a mistake for conservatives to be off of TikTok or be staunchly anti-TikTok because that’s where all the eyeballs are,” McEntee says. “You have to speak to people where they are.”

John McEntee’s Potential Return to the White House

With the 2024 presidential election, speculation abounds about John McEntee’s future role in Republican politics. Those close to former President Trump believe that a successful reelection bid would likely include a significant official appointment for McEntee. Trump reportedly continues to express admiration for McEntee’s work, viewing him as uniquely capable of ensuring ideological consistency in a future administration.

Reflecting on his experiences and looking toward the future, McEntee says, “The lessons we learned in the first administration will only make us stronger.”

As the political landscape continues to evolve, John McEntee’s influence is a reminder that power in Washington often extends beyond elected officials. His rapid rise from campaign volunteer to trusted presidential advisor and conservative strategist illustrates the complex web of relationships and loyalties that drive American politics.

Whether through his work with Project 2025, his ventures in tech, or a potential return to the White House, John McEntee is positioned to play a significant role in defining the future of the Republican Party and conservative politics in America.
